Guwahati: School students, educators professors and NCC cadets on Wednesday came out to take part in a walk to create awareness among the masses to reduce food waste by 50% at household, institutional and industrial levels
The walk was organised by JhSystem Research Society in continuation of Don't You Waste Food (DYWF) campaign's Guwahati Conclave.
The silent walk was led by students to create awareness regarding the need to combat food waste. As future leaders, students play a major role in creating this awareness.
As part of the initiative, a seminar on Effective Measures to Reduce Food Wastage by 50% at the Household, Institutional and Industrial Level was organised on Tuesday,
Participating in the seminar, Dr Chandan Mahanta, professor & head, department of civil engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, touched a very important aspect of technological intervention that was possible in the area of food wastage.
Indrani Deb, former chairperson, FICCI Ladies Organisation, North East, emphasised on the need to honour food, the process of growing food and processing it as this ultimately honours all the labour that goes into making it.
Don't You Waste Food campaign is a one-to-one awareness campaign designed to create sensitisation around the impending problems, caused due to food waste.
